The Kobarid Museum

The museum is dedicated to the events during the Soča Front. It narrates the two years and a half long battles in the Upper Soča Valley, especially the 12th Soča Battle, which is also known as the Kobarid Breakthrough. Numerous interesting exhibits, a Soča Valley relief, rich photographic material, the reconstruction of a cavern, and a documentary film all depict one of the hardest battles in a mountain setting in human history. The area of Kobarid is represented in the museum from its prehistory to modern days. The museum hosts also numerous exhibitions. Based on the number of visitors it is one of Slovenia’s most popular museum collections. In 1992 the Kobarid Museum was awarded the highest state award, the Valvazor Prize, and one year later the Council of Europe Museum Prize.
